PROVED BY TEST- SHATTERPROOF!

^ Actual tests have proved the un- •jK^ equalled resistance of Indestructo laminated safety glass to high ex- plosive. A 500-lb. bomb exploded at a distance of 50 ft., left it intact. Three times in succession 500 grams of Thermite were ignited on the same piece of Indestructo. Only on the third occasion did the glass show any damage. Adequate proof of the effectiveness of this safer safety glass ! Remember, too, it is crystal clear, and does not (fiscolour. Enquire for full particulars now.

Navy Agents

By the absorption of the business of Messrs. Stilwell & Sons (Navy Agents since 1770), the Westminster Bank provides a special Navy Branch, devoted to the banking requirements of the Royal Navy and Royal Marine. Officers and ships' crews are thereby ensured of the facilities they need in the drawing of Officers' pay from Divisional Paymasters, the management of claims for Salvage, Slave Bounty and Prize Bounty, the drawing of Half-Pay, Unemployed Full Pay and Pilotage Allowances, and the preparation of the Annual Return required by H.M. Paymaster

General's Office.

A feature is made of attending to the interests ol

officers and their families during the absence of the

former, and a great deal of routine work may be

left to tlie Bank. Junior Officers who are considering

the opening of a banking account are invited to

ask for the booklet, The Choice of a Bank for Naval

and Marine Officers, which the Manager of

the Navy Branch will be pleased

to send if requested

NOTES.

Officers and others who may notice errors or omissions in the List are invited to communicate direct with

The Secretary of the Admiralty, (Editor of the Navy List) London, S.W.I,

mentioning the ship or page afiected.

Such communications should not be sent to the Printers or Pub- lishers. They should be marked " On His Majesty's Service," and need not be stamped.

The names of Officers on the Retired, <&c., Lists, appear only in the February and August issues of the Navy List. The Contents Table for tJie Retired List appears immediately before the Index to Officers on the Retired, <&c., Lists.

The rates of pay, regulations, dkc, are contained in a separate publication BTititled " Appendix to the Navy List," which appears in June and December.

The names of Temporary Officers of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Naval Reserve and Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who have been granted permission to retain their rank, udth the right of wearing uniform on State and other occasions of ceremony, are not included in the Navy List.

No appointments made after the 18th of the month preceding publication can be inserted in the Navy List until the following List is published.

Officers on the Retired List are required to report their private permanent addresses and any changes therein to the appropriate authorities, as laid down in the regulations for Officers on the Retired List (see Appendix to the Navy List). If they are not drawing retired pay or pension, they should also report themselves by letter annually, on or shortly after the 1st January, to the Secretary of the Admiralty, or to the Adjutant-General, Royal Marines (for R.M. Officers), in order to ensure that their names are retained in the Navy List.

Officers on the Emergency List, Officers of the Special Reserve of Engineer Officers, and Special Reserve, Royal Marines, and Officers of the late Royal Naval Artillery Volunteers must similarly report their addresses annually.

Retired and Honorary Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve are required to report periodically as laid down in the R.N.R. (Officers) Regula- tions. -

Retired and Honorary Officers of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve are required to report their addresses annually, on or shortly after the 1st January, to the Admiral Commanding Reserves.

It is particularly requested that all Officers whose names appear in the Retired Section of the Navy List and who are not drawing retired pay or pension should leave instructions that, in the event of their death, the fact is to be reported to the appropriate authority ai indicated above. .-<>lir z"^-

NOTES. iii

The removal of an Officer's name from tlie Navy List in consequence of failure to report does not involve the termination of his commission or relieve him of the liability for service, if required when Ketired, Emergency or Eeserve Officers are called out in time of war or emergency.

Officers who succeed to peerages, baronetcies, or courtesy titles should immediately notify the same to the Secretary of the Admiralty, in order that the necessary alterations may be made in the Navy List and in the Official Eecords of the Admiralty.

The degrees shown after Officers' names in the Navy List are not necessarily a complete list of the Degrees held but, generally speaking, are confined to degrees of an honorary nature conferred specially upon an Officer and degrees which are so related to the professional duties of an Officer as to give some indication of hia professional qualifications.

The Navy List is compiled and published by order of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty for the convenience of the Service ; but, as errors may occasionally occur, their Lordships must expressly reserve their right to determine the status of any Officer according to the actual circumstances of the case, independ- ently of any Entry in the Navy List.

By command of their Lordships,

R. H. A. CARTER.
